In July of 2012, a friend shared this with me.

I was with Verizon Wireless at the time, actually, I was with them for 12 years.

So, he opens the conversation, asking me if I want unlimited talk, text and data on a 4G network for $49 a month.

He had me there at "hello!" as I was paying $163 a month and had unlimited NOTHING.

Then, I found out I had to pay for a new phone - you see Verizon phones don't work on this new network, as they don't take a SIM card.

I was on an iPhone 4, and it would not work on this new phone network. So I ended up selling it on eBay.

In those days, we bought a "founder's phone" and it cost me $650. Then, I had to go and cancel my Verizon account. I was under a contract still too, had about 6-7 months left. I ended up paying about $180 early termination fee.

Now, if you do the math, I paid a hefty sum there didn't I?

$650 plus $180, about $830 just so I could pay $49 a month.

But if you do the math, I was actually ahead, even before I started.

I was now no longer paying $163 a month for Verizon. Which means, I was now saving $114 a month.

With 8 months of payments, I'd be even, right?

Well... it did not happen that way, something even better happened.

Now, I do this all the time anyways, I did not change any of my monthly shopping behavior, but I got money for just eating food and drinking coffee!

Isn't it interesting... that my cell phone bill is normally $49 a month plus tax, and with the cash back I get per month, I get free mobile phone service, and again... it's what I buy and spend money on anyways.

If I never told a soul about my newly found cell phone company, I could just EAT MY WAY to FREE mobile phone service each month.

Isn't that just CRAZY?


Listen...  maybe you want to put that cell phone bill back in your pocket or bank account and save that money and use it for other things... I paid a HEFTY price to switch, $650 plus $180 just to get in.
